Longing, yearning
sweeping through the veins beneath her lily-white face
trailing from her lips: a pale utterance fading into nothing
Roll it against your tongue, between your gums, a canker, a longing that
tastes of nostalgia and your first kiss
a longing for rain, crystalline drops frigid melt
down your spine, shiver squinting eyes lolling
in fog and feather-soft clouds
Long for the throbbing thunder, tender skin
shakes resonates trembles to flashing lights
Long for the boy, long for
a cigarrete, a cool pale ghost against your lips
and dissolve into grey
Long for sleep, dull droning bees humming ants crawling
beneath your eyelids, then long for
an apology and thick whispers against the shell of your ear
the tantalizing tip of the tongue.
